Amazon KDP: AI content rules and Content Credentials
Short answer
Amazon KDP requires publishers to inform Amazon of AI-generated content (text, images or translations, including cover and interior images) when they publish or republish a book, but not AI-assisted content. Content created with an AI tool counts as AI-generated even if it was substantially edited afterwards.

AI content rules: what Amazon KDP says
Disclosure required
Rule: discloseKDP Content Guidelines.
“We require you to inform us of AI-generated content (text, images, or translations) when you publish a new book or make edits to and republish an existing book through KDP.”
AI-generated
DefinitionSame page.
“AI-generated: We define AI-generated content as text, images, or translations created by an AI-based tool.”
AI-assisted
DefinitionSame page.
“AI-assisted: If you created the content yourself, and used AI-based tools to edit, refine, error-check, or otherwise improve that content (whether text or images), then it is considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.” Similarly, if you used an AI-based tool to brainstorm and generate ideas, but ultimately created the text or images yourself, this is also considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.” It is not necessary to inform us of the use of such tools or processes.”
Responsibility
RuleSame page.
“You are responsible for verifying that all AI-generated and/or AI-assisted content adheres to all content guidelines, including by complying with all applicable intellectual property rights.”
If you post AI content on Amazon KDP
- Answer KDP’s AI questions for text, cover, interior images and translations when you publish or republish.
- Count content as AI-generated even if you edited it heavily afterwards.
- Check AI-generated content against KDP’s content guidelines and others’ rights.
Content Credentials (C2PA)
KDP’s content guidelines do not mention C2PA Content Credentials. We did not find more in the pages we read.
What is and is not documented
- The page does not say whether readers see the disclosure.
Check a file yourself
The Content Credentials checker reads the C2PA data in an image in your browser and shows who signed it, the generating tool and whether the signature still matches. It reads what a file declares; it does not detect AI from pixels, and a file with no credentials proves nothing either way. See why metadata gets stripped.
