Does Synthesia add Content Credentials?
Short answer
Synthesia says it adds C2PA metadata to videos generated or modified in Synthesia, shows Content Credentials in its video player and lets users add an optional on-video AI label, on all plans. Its pages we read describe invisible watermarks as a later step for the industry, not as something Synthesia applies.

Invisible watermarks
Not documentedSynthesia’s 2024 post on elections, about the wider industry.
“We are encouraging the rest of the industry to adopt C2PA so we can build a complete ecosystem for video creation and distribution, including more video players (such as this open source one) that can authenticate C2PA content credentials and, further down the line, invisible watermarks.”
What Synthesia says about labels and commercial use
Plans and purpose
LabelSynthesia’s update, on who gets the feature and why.
“We’ve added Content Credentials and labels to Synthesia: automatic metadata and on-video labels that help you meet new transparency requirements like EU AI Act Article 50 and California SB 942.”
Optional visible label
LabelSame update.
“You can also add a visible label when you need it: Choose a pre-built label from the Media panel Customize the text style, font, and color like any other shape Place it anywhere on your video This helps you stay compliant with less effort, and gives your viewers clear context about how the video was made.”
If you publish Synthesia output in the EU
Marking outputs in a machine-readable way is the duty of the tool’s provider under Article 50(2) of the AI Act. If you use the output for work and it is a deepfake, the visible disclosure is yours (Article 50(4)), whatever Synthesia adds to the file. What that means for your content: deepfakes and AI avatars and AI video.
Scope and limits
- The update describes what Synthesia adds; whether a downloaded or re-uploaded video keeps the metadata depends on what happens to the file afterwards.
- Synthesia’s pages read on 3 November 2026 do not describe an invisible watermark.
If the credentials are removed
C2PA data travels inside the file, so a re-encode, screenshot or upload that does not carry it across leaves an image with no credentials. A watermark or fingerprint can help find a record again, if one was stored (see the C2PA specification’s soft bindings). Proofcan is independent of Synthesia: for images you mark with Proofcan it writes a C2PA manifest, an invisible watermark and a registry record. It does not change or vouch for how Synthesia marks its own outputs.
Check a file yourself
The Content Credentials checker reads the C2PA data in an image in your browser and shows who signed it, the generating tool and whether the signature still matches. It reads what a file declares; it does not detect AI from pixels, and a file with no credentials proves nothing either way. See why metadata gets stripped.
